Shays: Energy Independence = Lower Gas Prices

Republican US Senate hopeful Christopher Shays reacts to the recent spike in gas prices.

A Republican vying for the US Senate seat of retiring Senator Joe Lieberman says gas prices wouldn't be so high if America had more energy independence.

"In spite of the fact that we have some of the largest energy deposits in the entire world, we spend an astonishing one billion dollars every single day buying fossil fuel from overseas," Christopher Shays said in a statement.

"We need increased energy production here at home," he added. "Let's create energy independence and more American jobs by developing our own vast resources of natural gas and oil."

For the Republican nomination, Shays is up against businesswoman Linda McMahon, who, in 2010, lost her bid for a US Senate seat against Democrat Richard Blumenthal. In a recent interview with The News-Times, Shays said he was running behind McMahon in the polls.

Shays has his headquarters located in Stratford at the former home of Connecticut's first US Senator William Samuel Johnson. The house is located at 2103 Main St.

"It's simply unacceptable that gas prices are skyrocketing, especially in the middle of winter when prices typically fall," Shays said.

Chris Shays was in Congress for how many years? Now he is talking about an energy policy? What was he doing when he was there? Let me answer that, voting with the Democrats. If I was going to vote for him I might as well just vote for a Democrat instead. Here is a guy who moves away from CT for the past three years and then moves back to Bridgeport because he finds another opportunity to potentially live off the taxpayer again for 6 more years. He has done nothing to help CT or create private sector jobs. I am voting for Linda!

The last time I heard about him, he was on a train or something and had just packed his office up. Amazing! Progressive...

I got a better idea. How about we pay down our national debt. Gas prices like everything else is inflated because our dollar is deflated. When the price of gold goes up it's cause the value of the dollar is weaker. Printing more money out of thin air with out something to back it up, (gold for example). causes this problem. We need to get out of these needless wars and stop the printing this fiat money from the federal reserve. Do yourself a favor and go look this up. It is more a fact then fiction then you might.
