The U.S. Department of Energy transferred Connecticut $481,000 in federal money to go toward solar energy research.
According to Yale Daily News, the money will be used by the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) for research to lower the price of future solar installations. The government authority was created last year by state law and is the first of its kind in the nation.
The CEFIA's mission "is to promote, develop and invest in clean energy and energy efficiency projects in order to strengthen Connecticut's economy, protect community health, improve the environment, and promote a secure energy supply for the state."
CEFIA spokesman David Goldberg told the Yale Daily News that the money won't actually reduce the cost of equipment, but will reduce "non-hardware costs" that can count for one-fifth of the total expenses.
