AP: McMahon Changes Image, Wins Voters

News and updates on Connecticut's Senate and Third District races.

Senate

The Associated Press took a look at the closely-contested race for Senate and finds that Linda McMahon (R)'s attempts to change her image from that of a "groin-kicking CEO to grandmother" have been paying off.

Chris Murphy (D), her opponent, said that voters need to be reminded why they voted against her in her failed 2010 Senate bid.

3rd District

Rosa DeLauro (D): After a report discovered arsenic in rice products, several lawmakers -- including DeLauro -- are pitching a bill to set federal guidelines for legal limits of the chemical, reports The Huffington Post.

Wayne Winsley (R) posted on Facebook that he had a radio interview on Bill Bennett's Morning in America, a conservative program.

ROSA DeLauro: Pandering for Votes. Arsenic combines with O, Cl, and S to form inorganic arsenic compounds. Inorganic arsenic is known to be hazardous. In plants, arsenic combines with H and O to form organic arsenic compounds which occur naturally in various foods: e.g. fruits, grains. Little is known about health effects, if any, of ingesting organic arsenic. The FDA monitors levels of both natural organic arsenic & inorganic arsenic in our food supply—and has not determined any safety concern for rice. The FDA already announced a process of further inspection of rice and rice products to determine levels and types of arsenic present to protect the public. This will provide additional information about the safety of rice and rice products with low levels of arsenic. When the FDA finds inorganic arsenic—the kind currently KNOWN to be toxic—it considers those findings on a case-by-case basis, taking regulatory action where necessary. It is this inorganic arsenic that has been regulated in bottled water for years. No standards exist for naturally-occurring organic arsenic in rice—because no one knows what a safe level is: little research has been done on organic arsenic’s effect—if any—on human health. Thus, Rosa DeLauro’s “RICE ACT”—like every worthless, vote-pandering, wasteful idea she’s come up with over the years—should never leave legislative committee.

Rosa DeLauro's career is finished. Her Diaper Act, National Infrastructure Bank, and other self-serving acts of corporate donor subsidies are going NOWHERE because she has been banned. She is a partisan extremist who has made hated enemies with every single member of Congress with an R by their name. Consequently, DeLauro is worse than a lame duck: she is persona non grata, totally useless as a legislator, and serves only ONE purpose going forward:
An extremist attack dog, partisan party ideologue, and purveyor of state-sponsored poverty spreading proposals. DeLauro's time is up! Her 22 years of ferocious attacks have run their course. Time for her to be thrown out of office!

McMahon - Tip-off memo - ethics?
(Starting to sound like George!)

McMahon can't win in CT. The state is onto her and no amount of her smackdown millions will hide her backstory. Bad for women, she's sought to sway the women's vote in CT. Don't be fooled - this woman made her millions denigrating women and laughing all the way to the bank during the deepest recession in our recent history.
Also of note, adding her voice to an already ideologically destructive Republican filibustering minority in the Senate could be devastating to the country. Just look at what the Republicans in the Senate did when they killed the recent Military Veterans Job Bill, a bill to address the unemployment numbers and designed to specifically help our vets find and keep work. Four of those Republican Senators who voted against the bill co-wrote it! No one need to look very hard to know that having a majority of Republicans in the Senate would be an unmitigated DISASTER. It's bad enough that they can force a filibuster vote to 60 instead of merely a majority of 51 in their efforts to obstruct every single good bill that might make a sitting Democratic President look successful....and that they will do so even if it DOES mean our vets don't get relief from unemployment. You decide: a vote for McMahon means putting the same kind of small, closed-minded ideologically driven tea party partisanship in the drivers seat. She's not shown us that she will do otherwise.

Rosa D. GREENBERG is wife of LOBBYIST Stanley GREENBERG. She is one of the richest members of Congress.
She dusts off the playbook and starts her lies by promising engine plant openings and Arsenic bills. Sad to see she is still allowed to steal millions from Americans while claiming to help us. McMahon is right up there with Richy Rich Romney the moron who CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE MIDDLE CLASS.
Hansa Junchun September 25, 2012 at 05:11 pm
Chris, don't waste your time explaining chemistry to THE Congresswoman. She has a panel of highly educated, highly paid lobbyists from ConAgra who assured her that small family farms need to be closed on account of their exposure to arsenic compounds. Most likely, after their PAC checks cleared, the RICE Act was released.
This is how the brutally partisan extremist Rosa DeLauro operates: duping the people into thinking she cares about them, while selling their children into a hopelessly bleak future of de-industrialized feudal serfdom, forced to scrape on their knees before all-powerful multinational corporations. Rosa's not just the one percent. She is the facilitator and executioner of the 0.01 percent's absolute will! The only thing We The People can do is throw her out of office! Perhaps an act of defiance like that will cause these immensely corrupt powers to shrug.

I think McMahon will get even more votes if she starts publishing some recipes. Hmmmmmmm - "Grandma's Homemade Recipes".

They are an awful company, I called as well as e-mailed my displeasure with their new and easier toRead More navigate homepage and was met with surprise by the tech support person. My location says that I am in West Babylon NY when I am in Milford CT (can't change that), the e-mails delete willy nilly (note: be careful to pay attention to your highlighted e-mail as it is not always the one that is being deleted). Oh, and why on earth such a huge map of their optimum hotspots when I am at home and as their customer they should at least figure that I have the internet service so therefore no reason for a hot spot at home. I am totally amazed that nobody, not one person at Optimum took a look at that piece of junk and still thought that it was ready to release to the public? Best part is that they were so sure that we'd all love it that we cannot go back to the old home page. Simply beyond amazing.

I'm still waiting for them to figure out how to pause and rewind live TV. Apparently they areRead More working on it, and have been for the last 5 years.

To clarify, for those who are wondering why we can't just take the two cats up with us, we alreadyRead More have four cats, and a dog. We could only take two of the four cats with us, plus the dog (who is 14yrs. old.) The limit for the rental is three pets... this was a hard decision for us all. We would have taken them all if we could.

Now that Sam has been found, the reason he ran off was due to the sound of gunfire at RooseveltRead More Forest in the early afternoon as his master was getting ready to take him out of his car. All had been quiet, the park was open, so the loud bangs were a surprise - both to Sam and his "Dad". To the best of my knowledge, when the shooting range is used by the Stratford PD, the park is closed to the public. It was that way always and I believe still is. But now, with non-Stratford police personnel using the range, obviously the Park is NOT closed as was observed/heard yesterday at 2 separate time periods of the day. The range is used by at least one other police department. Of course, there could be unauthorized people using the range too. I just don't know. But what I do know that yesterday (Wed), there was shooting early afternoon, and then again around 6PM. I observed at around 5:00PM, a little boy running up the dirt road that leads to the shooting range. The park remained opened all day! The shooting was NOT being done by the Stratford Police. People do not always stick to the trails, and as we all know, children can be quite curious. Who is to say a child and/or adult gets near the berm or behind it and someone shoots over the berm? What goes up, has to come down. I also was told that neighbors say there is shooting going on quite frequently, even on Sundays. I doubt that this is from Stratford PD, because outdoor shooting usually occurs for a week or so, twice a year. Tighter controls must be done! Surely, the parking area can be checked for vehicles... but I observed yesterday people entering the parking area (adjacent to the driveway leading up to the range) on foot, on bicycles, and motorcycles. So people could be in the park even when no vehicles are observed in the lot. Safety is key here! Procedures need to be put in place and perhaps limitations on when other police department(s) can use the range. It is not fair to the surrounding residents to have to hear the bang bang bang on Saturdays and Sundays. It scares some of them, and I know that one person who lives nearby says her dog gets scared right inside their house! What will it take? A child or an adult wandering near the range, thinking it is OK because the Forest is open... and then, all of a sudden, there is shooting and one gets shot, especially a child? This may sound extreme, but children can move quick and suddenly. I think of that little boy running up toward the range. He could have very well traveled through the woods. I can picture bullets being shot over the berm, not on purpose, but it can happen. Or shots go to the left or to the right; and people could be in the same general area - out of sight of the shooters. Bottom Line: The "public" can not be in the park while the range is "live", or in other words, when there is shooting taking place. As how to ensure that the public is not in the park, is not for me to determine. But the Town has to step up to the plate and address this very important issue.

Reagan's quote is from the 1988 GOP convention that 'facts are stupid things'...John Adams made theRead More original quote.
Steve Raguskus June 15, 2013 at 10:20 am
I hope people note how these comments go. Anonymous right-wingers try to change the discussion,Read More prove a point that no one is arguing, and then declare victory. Both "Goodie Bassett" and "Reagan Night" say Ms. Daponte is lying because Tony Smith won't be removed from office. I just re-read Beth's piece to see where she made this claim, but she never said anything of the sort. What she did say was "Both Tony and Linda serve until January 1, 2016." So, where's the "half-truth"? The point of the post is that the new land use District II, comprised of the 3rd & 4th council districts, has no representation on any of these boards. Tony Smith will be the District II Zoning Commissioner, even though he doesn't live in that district. The extreme right can't defend this, so they try to change the subject.
richard brown June 15, 2013 at 12:29 pm
Isn't it odd that the half truths are written by people that won't sigh their real name but theRead More Democrats sign theirs. Huh, guess they don't want to be held accountable for their inuendo's and false acusations.
