The fire started in the first floor bathroom and burned through the walls to the second floor and then to the attic, said Asst. Fire Chief Tim Brennan. A plumber working on the house called in the fire at 12:31 p.m., he said.

According to a post on the Stratford Fire Department's Facebook page, the caller said workers in the Ash Street home caught the insulation on fire in the rear bathroom.

Brennan did not confirm that as the cause of the fire.

It took 18 firefighters about 10 minutes to knock down the blaze through an all-interior attack, Brennan said. There was visible damage to the roof and second floor.

There was no furniture or belongings in the home and nobody was injured in the incident, he said.
