Unwanted Suitor Cannot Accept Breakup

Bridgeport man arrested by police on trespass and harassment charges after repeated unwanted visits to former girlfriend's apartment.

It was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, again and again and again.

On Feb. 18, Officer Santos was dispatched to a Success Avenue apartment on the report of an unwanted person at the front door who won’t leave after being asked. Dispatch said an early shift responded to the same complaint.

Upon Officer Santos’ arrival, he saw a man with a black jacket with brown fur around the hood with blue jeans and grey boots at the front door. The officer said he could hear voices coming from the second floor window telling the male that he should not be there because their relationship was over several weeks and that she wanted to move on.

The suspect identified himself as Damon Cook, 36, of Bridgeport, at which point the female on the second floor started yelling at the officer that Cook had been doing this for several weeks and won’t leave her alone.

Police asked Cook for an explanation and he said he was visiting a friend. Cook was warned by police that if he persisted on being at the scene he would be arrested.

Cook agreed to leave, but a short time later he was observed trying to hide behind a bush nearby. Cook was again warned by police to leave the area and he then went into the building complex on Success Avenue.

Officer Santos reported that 45 minutes later he returned to the scene when he observed Cook still in the area walking toward the apartment. Santos then turned on his headlights and began heading toward Cook when he walked again into the complex.

Santos called for backup and Officer Oliver apprehended Cook nearby on Pearl Harbor Street. Police notified the complainant who told them that Cook scared her and that she was afraid that he might hurt her family. In addition, she was in the process of getting a restraining order against him in part because he keeps calling her on the phone.

Cook was taken to headquarters where he was charged with criminal trespass and harassment. Bond was set at $10,000 and court was Feb. 18.
