Traffic Stop Leads to Probation Violation Arrest

Search of Stratford Moter Inn room turns up empty after paraphernalia found in unregistered vehicle driven by repeat offender.

On May 17, police observed a vehicle parked in front of room 10 at the Stratford Motor Inn, which they said “is a known and documented area for narcotics sale and usage,” with a cancelled registration.

Police also noticed “several individuals in other vehicles” who had entered and exited the room in a very short period of time, including three people who entered the vehicle in question and then drove westbound on Stratford Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle and the driver, Shawn Cash, 32, of Bridgeport said he owned the car. However, Cash was unable to show registration or insurance for the vehicle.

A female in the back seat with no identification gave police two different names, finally settling on Imani Brown, 20, who policed then discovered was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Bridgeport for violation of probation.

Brown was handcuffed, searched and brought to headquarters for processing. She was charged with violation of probation and she was held in bond of $30,000 with a court date set for June 1.

Meanwhile, a background check on Cash showed five prior arrests including multiple firearms charges and narcotics sales. The police K-9 was then brought to the scene.

“Roscoe hit on the driver’s side front door as well as under the front driver’s seat,” police said in their report. A search of vehicle produced multiple clear baggies that had trace residue of white powder. Police also found multiple used waxed baggies with stars on the front, “common packaging for heroin.”

However, no baggie contained enough substance for testing, police said.

Cash then gave police permission to search room 10, which he had rented, and police searched the room but found nothing.

Cash was charged with misuse of a plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and no insurance. He was released on a promise to appear in court on May 31 and the car was towed.
