Torrington Teen Threatens Shooting at Stratford, Danbury Schools

Police find manifesto and plans for school shooting in 18-year-old's home.

A Torrington 18-year-old has been arrested on felony charges after allegedly making verbal threats against Bunnel High School in Stratford and Danbury High School.

Natalie Carpenter was charged with attempt to commit assault in the first degree and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree on Tuesday after making threats against the schools, including allegedly planning a shooting.

Danbury High School was put on alert Tuesday, though lockdown procedures were not necessary at either school.

According to a report in the Register Citizen, Torrington Board of Education Chairman Ken Traub told board members in an email that Carpenter and another person had written a manifesto and had attempted to purchase weapons as part of a plan to attack local schools.

The Republican-American, citing court documents, reported that police discovered evidence in Carpenter’s home, “which indicated plans to shoot or use the weapon at school.”

No information on possible motives have been released yet.

Carpenter is being held on $300,000 bond until her next court date, scheduled for March 18. She has yet to enter a plea.

Torrington police also arrested Carpenter on Jan. 30 on charges of criminal trespass in the first degree and breach of peace in the second degree, according to court records. She pleaded ‘not guilty’ and is due back in court on those charges on April 22.
