Titanium Ignites at Stratford Metal Works Company

Four barrels catch fire Wednesday afternoon. Fire was contained and no one was injured.

Sparks from a welding machine caused four barrels of titanium metal shavings to catch fire Wednesday at a building on Honeyspot Road.

Stratford firefighters were dispatched to a metal works company at 915 Honeyspot Road shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Personnel arrived to find the barrels “igniting and releasing an extensive amount of smoke throughout the building,” Deputy Chief Brian Lampart said in a statement.

The fire was contained to the barrels with no reported injuries, Lampart said. The Milford Fire Department assisted at the scene and the Bridgeport Fire Department provided coverage for other calls.

The nature of the fire was determined to be accidental, Lampart said.
