Suspected Gang Member Arrested for Dealing Near School

Police arrested a man Monday who they say is a member of the Latin Kings street gang.

A 25-year-old Stratford resident was arrested Monday after an investigation into drug dealing near .

Charles "Jumpoff" Jaume, of Broadbridge Avenue, is believed by police to be a member of the Latin Kings street gang, according to police spokesman Lt. Frank Eannotti.

Police pulled over Jaume's vehicle on Barnum Avenue near its intersection with Boston Avenue, Eannotti said. An undisclosed amount of crack cocaine was found in the vehicle and it was determined the drugs were packaged to sell, he said.

Further investigation found a .380-caliber handgun that Jaume did not have a permit for and, due to previous convictions, was forbidden to possess, Eannotti said.

  • Possession with intent to sell narcotics
  • Possession within 1500 feet of a school
  • Possession of crack cocaine
  • Carrying a dangerous weapon
  • Criminal possession of a pistol

He was held on $100,000 bond and is schedule to appear in court June 28.
