Suspect Charged for People's Bank Robbery

Michael Monroe faces robbery and drug-related charges for the alleged incident last week.

A 21-year-old man was charged last week with stealing about $1,300 in an armed robbery at the People's Bank branch at the Dock Shopping Center on East Main Street in Stratford.

Michael Monroe, whose address was not disclosed by police, was arrested at the Ramada Inn on Lordship Boulevard Monday, Jan. 7, after the robbery was reported to police at about 3 p.m. that day, police said.

Monroe allegedly fled on foot following the heist, police said.

With the help of Milford police, Monroe was traced to the Stratford motel where police said they found narcotics and much of the money. Police said no weapon was displayed at People's Bank but Monroe implied he had one.

Monroe was charged with second-degree robbery and threatening; possession of heroin; possession of crack cocaine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was held in lieu of $250,000 bond and is due in court Friday, Jan. 18.
