Snowy Roads Result in Minor Car Accidents

Public works is out in full force but roads are still slick.

The first snow of 2012 is piling up on Stratford's streets and so are the car accidents.

reports that there have been a handful of minor car accidents on local roads today. The most severe took place on Route 110 near Warner Hill Road, but the occupant avoided injuries, according to Sgt. Robert Burroughs.

At 10:34 a.m., a van headed down the hill flipped over on its side about 200 feet from the intersection with Main Street, a spokesman said. The spokesman said when emergency responders arrived at the scene, the male driver, who was not identified, had already exited the vehicle on his own and was not hurt.

"The roads are bad over there," Burroughs said of the northern section of town.

"Public Works is out and clearing the roads," he added. "Thus far everything is going pretty well given the conditions."

Emergency officials said residents should stay home if they don't need to travel.
