Stratford Police Seize Guns, Drugs, Cash

Police said heroin alone had an estimated street value of $59K.

On Nov. 7, the Stratford Police Narcotics Vice and Intelligence Unit served a search warrant at 36 Louisiana Ave. in Bridgeport. The warrant stems from an investigation into drug activity in the Town of Stratford.

During the investigation detectives identified the suspect as Joel Nelson, age 26, formerly of Stratford. Also implicated in the crimes was Tamara Robles age 27 of Stratford.

During the warrant service investigators found the pair to be in possession of cache of weapons which included an assault rifle, three shotguns and two handguns, one of which was confirmed stolen.

The weapons were hidden in the bedroom (of) Nelson and Robles' young child. The weapons and a supply of ammunition were seized.

Also seized were two safes which contained cocaine (17 grams), over 100 prescription narcotics pills (including oxycodone), suboxone strips, marijuana (5.6 oz) and 299 bundles of heroin (2993 individual packets) with an approximate street value of $59,000 dollars.

Also found in the safe was $4,900 dollars in cash money, which is suspected proceeds from drug sales

Nelson was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Sale of Prescription Medications and Marijuana
  • Sale of Narcotics
  • Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Illegal Transfer of a Firearm
  • Theft of a Firearm
  • Risk of Injury to a Minor
  • Operating a Drug Factory

Nelson was issued a court date of Nov. 14 and was held on a $500,000 bond.

Robles was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Sale of Prescription Medications and Marijuana
  • Sale of Narcotics
  • Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Illegal Transfer of a Firearm
  • Theft of a Firearm
  • Risk of Injury to a Minor
  • Sale of Narcotics
  • Violation of Conditions of Release

Robles was issued a court date of Nov. 14 and held on a $100,000 dollar bond.
