Stratford - Police Blotter

Enforcement actions by the Stratford Police for the period Feb. 27 through Feb. 28.

On Feb. 27, while on patrol on Barnum Avenue, police stopped a vehicle for only displaying one license plate. A check showed that the plate is no longer assigned to a vehicle. The operator, Kiana Malachi, 32, of Bridgeport, was charged with no front plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of registration and no insurance. She was released on a promise to appear in court on March 8.

On Feb. 28, police were on patrol on Barnum Avenue when a car was heard to be making a loud and unusual noise. Upon further investigation, the license plate was found to be expired and assigned to a different vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, Norma Vasquez, 35, of Jackson Avenue, told police that the plate “came with the vehicle,” and that it had recently been purchased but not registered with the motor vehicle department. Vasquez was charged with unnecessary noise, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of a registration plate and no insurance. She was released on a promise to appear in court on March 15.

On Feb. 28, a representative of Dizabella Construction came to headquarters to report a larceny from his work van. Nick Dizabella told police that he went to a local restaurant between the hours of 5:50 and 7 p.m. When he came back out to his van, his friend tried to open the right rear sliding door but could not get it open. He told police that he thought little of it at the time but when he came out to his van the next morning at his home in Milford he saw that the lock on the rear sliding door had been damaged. He then realized that several of his power tools were missing, valued at $2,100. Police checked with the restaurant but no video footage was available of the location where the van was parked. The investigation is continuing.
