Stratford - Police Blotter

Enforcement actions taken from May 7 to May 10.

On May 7, police were on patrol in the area of Barnum and Broadbridge avenues running registrations when they stopped a vehicle that came back showing expired insurance. The operator, Jasmin Sanchez, 31, of Bridgeport, also did not have a license on her. Police checked and discovered the license was suspended in 2010. The vehicle was towed and Sanchez was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating with a suspending driver’s license and operating without insurance. She was released on a promise to appear in court on May 17.

On May 9, police were on routine patrol when they stopped to assist a disabled vehicle on Ferry Boulevard. An unidentified female was out with the disabled vehicle filling the gas tank with a container. The vehicle came back with an expired registration. The operator, Kimberly Lawton, 37, of Yarwood Street, told police that the car was owned by her mother and was not aware that the registration had expired. She added that her mother had asked her to take the car out for gas but that it had run out of gas before she could get to the filling station. Lawton also could not provide proof of insurance. She was instructed to move the vehicle off the road and was charged with operating a vehicle with no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. She was released on a promise to appear in court on May 17.

On May 10, police observed a vehicle exit the Honeyspot Motel that showed a cancelled registration. The driver, Eileen Johnson, 42, of Stratford Avenue was also unable to show proof of insurance and was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, no insurance and no emissions. The vehicle was towed and Johnson was released on a promise to appear in court on May 23.
