Stratford Man, 48, Nabbed for Water Gun

Police said William Spear 'appeared to be extremely intoxicated' when confronted by an officer.

A 48-year-old Stratford man was issued an infraction for creating a public disturbance Saturday after police said he sprayed a man with a water gun from the driver's seat of his car.

William Spear of Lynncrest Drive reportedly caused an outrage in the parking lot of the on Main Street around 10 p.m. when he rolled down his driver's side window, shot the water gun at another man and sped off, police said.

An onlooker was reportedly able to read the license plate on Spear's pickup and relayed that information to police, who then confronted Spear at his residence. Before knocking on the door, police said they spotted a water gun on the passenger's seat of Spear's pickup.

Spear denied shooting anyone with the water gun, even after police said they had two sworn statements saying he did, according to police, who added that the 48-year-old "appeared to be extremely intoxicated" while being interviewed.
