Stratford Fire Dept. Going Pink for Breast Cancer

Some of the department's members will be wearing pink T-shirts during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can purchase one, too, and help spread awareness.

In recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, some members of the Stratford Fire Department next month plan to clad themselves in pink.

The T-shirt (pictured) is also available for sale to the public. The shirts are $12, come in sizes youth small through adult XXXL, and can be purchased at fire headquarters on Main Street.

The money from the shirts will go to benefit Swim Across The Sound, a charitable, grassroots organization run by St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation in Bridgeport.

Printed on the shirts is a ribbon with the words "In Memory of Sandy Almeida," to pay tribute a fire department member's wife who lost her battle with breast cancer, according to a post on the SFD's Facebook page.
