The following arrest information was supplied by the Stratford Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Stratford police arrested a Bridgeport man on Nov. 19 for allegedly trying to walk out of with a trash bag packed with an expensive amount of unpaid seafood and meat.

George Kovac, 53, was approached by store surveillance workers after they reportedly saw the man select numerous items from the seafood and meat departments and place them into a white trash bag, a police report said.

The report said Kovac pushed the ShopRite loss prevention agent and made a move for the exit. However, the agent caught up with the Bridgeport man, tackling him to the ground near the exit doors, the report said.

The total amount of allegedly stolen food products came to $204.91, the report said.

Kovac reportedly admitted that he attempted to leave without paying for the items.

He was charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny and was unable to post $500 bond. He was due in court Nov. 30.

Kovac is no longer welcome at the ShopRite on Barnum Avenue Cut-Off, the report said.
