State Police Issue More Than 1,000 Speeding Tickets

The Connecticut State Police issued its Labor Day weekend statistics Tuesday.

During the past holiday weekend, the Connecticut State Police reported one fatal accident resulting in two deaths in Norwalk on the Merritt Parkway and issued more than 1,000 speeding citations.

State Police anticipated heavier than normal weekend traffic for the 2011 Labor Day holiday. The State Police were able to increase the public safety to the highways and secondary roads of our state by using aircraft, unmarked patrol vehicles and additional manpower.

Tuesday morning, Lt. J. Paul Vance said that the traffic was actually a little less than normal, though it was still busy.

For the purposes of reporting the statistics for this holiday weekend, the State Police consider the “weekend” as beginning on Friday, Sept. 2 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Monday, Sept. 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Motor Vehicle Infractions:

1,249 speeding

101 seat belt violations

2,045 other violations

49 driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs summons

Motor Vehicle Accidents:

300 total accidents

14 with injury

1 fatal accident, 2 deaths
