Cops: Resident Tosses Kittens from Car, Killing One

The following arrest information was supplied by the Stratford Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Stratford woman faces animal cruelty charges after she allegedly threw two kittens out of her car while traveling on Barnum Avenue Cut-Off Thursday morning.

Police said one of the kittens died from the incident, which, according to a witness, happened near the intersection with Ferry Boulevard.

The suspect, Edna Stelmach, of Housatonic Avenue, reportedly denied that she had thrown the kittens out of her vehicle after Stratford Animal Control discovered the two kittens in the area and seized four more from the 73-year-old's vehicle, police said.
