On facebook you say the cops get "play with all the best toys." It's the citizens that are lucky that Chief Lovello has fought to buy all of this equipment and the officers have to train hard to master it's use. For example I love riding my Harley but riding one on duty is not fun. It's a great tool for law enforcement. The officer's ability to see things is much better then from a car. The ability to hide the bike is great but it's not very comfortable. Officers have to wear a lot of equipment and its very hot in the summer and cold in the spring and fall.

I recall a retired officer telling me how much fun it was to shoot in the firing range. The sense I've gotten from police officers (in another department) was that they did have fun on their boat and on their motorcycles. (That doesn't mean that they're goofing off or otherwise not doing their jobs.) Thanks for your comment, though. It's good for the rest of us to get that perspective on the difficult parts of the job. A relative of mine who just retired from a police force made similar comments about the cold.
