Police Blotter - Stratford

Police enforcement actions taken from March 16 through March 21.

On March 16 while on patrol, police conducted a registration check on a vehicle traveling west on Birch Drive. The check showed that the vehicle’s registration was expired. After stopping the vehicle on Woodend Road and Dodge, the operator, Kelvin J. Newton, 41, of Waterbury was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance and an emissions violation. He was released on a promise to appear in court on March 29.

On March 16, police observed a vehicle traveling east on Stratford Avenue without a front license plate. A check also showed the rear plate displayed was not valid. The operator, Rolando Sandoval, 55, of Stamford, was charged with failure to display a front plate, misuse of a marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and no insurance. He was released on a promise to appear in court on March 29.

On March 18, police stopped a vehicle on Honeyspot Road when it was observed with a large crack in the windshield. The driver, David Cannon, 51, of Bridgeport had a suspended license and no insurance. He was charged with driving with a defective windshield, operating with a suspended license and no insurance. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 29.

On March 19, while on an unrelated motor vehicle stop, police observed a person walking into a clinic on Research Drive who was recognized as someone with an outstanding warrant in Trumbull. Once finished with the motor vehicle stop, police waited for Joseph Schultz, 27, of Rose Street to exit the clinic and then stopped him after he came out of the building. He was taken to headquarters and charged with violation of probation. Bond was $5,000, Trumbull police were notified and court set for March 31.

On March 19, police observed a car traveling east on Lordship Boulevard near Surf Avenue without a front plate. A check showed the plate was suspended and expired. Police stopped the car on Research Drive. The driver, James Ternak, 32, of West Haven, and the owner of the car, Maureen Kushner, also of West Haven who was in the passenger’s seat, could not provide valid insurance paperwork for the vehicle. A further check showed both has suspended drivers’ licenses. Ternak was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating with a suspended license, no front plate and an emissions violation.  He was released on a promise to appear in court.
