Heroin, Cocaine Bust at Honeyspot Motel; Drugs Found in Female's Underwear

Anonymous tip sends police to a room where an alleged "scuffle" leads to heroin and cocaine find, and several puppies.

A couple was arrested on drug charges this past weekend after a patrol officer received an anonymous tip that a disturbance was taking place at the Honeyspot Motel.

When police arrived at room 111 at 12:43 a.m. on March 26, they heard a loud TV, a dog barking and what “sounded like scuffling coming from inside the room.”

Upon knocking on the door, police observed a female, who was later identified as Carmen Fontanez, 49, of Bridgeport, “with a bump on her forehead and a small amount of blood” coming from the area of the bump, according to police.

Officers asked Fontanez what had happened and she reportedly stated that she bumped her head on the wall while trying to get control of the dogs when police knocked on the door. She told officers she knew she wasn’t supposed to have dogs in the motel, police said.

Police asked her if she needed an ambulance and she stated, no.

The officers then asked if they could enter the room and Fontanez reportedly consented. Upon entering the room a male, who was later identified as Alpheus Jefferson, 50, was laying on the bed.

Police reportedly saw in plain view a crack pipe on his lap and a tiny glacine baggy in his hand with what appeared to be crack cocaine inside. Fontanez and Jefferson denied fighting, according to police.

Police searched Jefferson and reportedly found some tiny green glacine baggies with a white rock substance inside that police believed to be crack cocaine. On the bed beside Jefferson was a Phillips screwdriver with black burnt residue on it. Jefferson reportedly told police that he uses the screwdriver as a push rod for the crack pipe. Police then searched Jefferson’s pockets for weapons and more drugs and found a large amount of cash separated by denomination.

The $50s were in one pocket, the $20s in another pocket, $100 bill in another pocket and a $10 and several $1 bills in another pocket, according to police.

Police had Fontanez sit in a chair and hold the two puppies. However, police said, she attempted to use the puppies as a distraction to empty her pockets on to the chair. When the officers instructed her to get up, several green glacine baggies fell to the ground and she had some wax type small baggies with a white powdery substance inside, which Fontanez reportedly admitted to be heroin.

Police then called for a female officer to respond to the scene to check Fontanez for weapons, more drugs or paraphernalia. The female police officer stated that Fontanez pulled a crack pipe, a clear baggy with crack and some folds of heroin from her underwear.

Both the suspected substances tested positively for heroin and cocaine. Police reported a total of 13 baggies of crack cocaine and eight folds of heroin.

Police noted that the Honeyspot Motel is located across the street from , which is within 1,500 feet of the motel.

Both Jefferson and Fontanez were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, a violation of drug activity statutes within 1,500 feet of a school, and creating a public disturbance.

Each was held in lieu of a $20,000 bond. Jefferson was placed in cell one and Fontanez in cell 10 pending an April 7 court date.

In their report, officers noted that the motel “is a known area of violent crimes, domestic violence, drug activity, prostitution” and that police have been called there on many occasions and made “numerous arrests in the process.”
