Fire Renders Stratford Home ‘Uninhabitable’

Though the bulk of fire damage was confined to the kitchen, there is heat and smoke damage throughout the structure, a fire official said.

Officials say a fire that started in the kitchen at 270 Graham St. Tuesday has left the Stratford home ‘uninhabitable.’

Though the bulk of fire damage was confined to the kitchen, there is heat and smoke damage throughout the structure, Deputy Fire Chief of Operations Jon Gottfried said in a release.

The Stratford fire marshal’s office determined the cause as accidental and related to cooking, Gottfried said.

A total of 22 personnel responded to the call, which came in at about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday. An engine from the Milford Fire Department was dispatched to headquarters for backup.

There are no reported injuries.

In the release, Gottfried reminds homeowners to change their smoke detector batteries at the end of daylight savings on Sunday, Nov. 3.
