Marine Units Respond to Water Emergencies

Fire and police officials respond to two reports of boats in distress.

Stratford fire and police officials responded to two water emergencies Saturday, according to a post on the fire department's Facebook page.

At about 4:45 p.m., the 's Marine Rescue 1 handled the first call in which a boat with three adults and one child was found in distress in the area of the lighthouse. The boat was experiencing motor issues and was assisted back to the Birdseye Boat Launch.

While returning to the dock, Marine Rescue 1 was waved down by another boat in distress, which the handled.

On its Facebook page, the department posted the following: "Both marine units do their best to respond to emergencies in a safe and efficient manner. The PD marine unit arrives first to many incidents as well. We are fortunate to have two available marine units in town to be able to handle the multiple water emergencies that occur in the waters in and around the Town of Stratford."

It is about time we have multiple marine units available in our waterways. There are so many people on the water around Stratford and we need to do all we can to keep them and their property safe. Kudos to the PD and FD marine units for working together and helping to protect our citizens despite all the criticism!

The residents of Stratford should feel lucky to have multiple agencies with rescue vessels, we have almost the most coastline in the state, not all towns can offer the services the the PD and FD can.
