Helicopter Finds Distressed Boaters in Sound [Updated]

Three boaters were rescued early Friday after their boat capsized late Thursday night.

Three boaters were rescued early Friday after their boat capsized off the coast of Stratford three hours earlier, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports that a Coast Guard helicopter located the three people in the water about a mile southwest of Silver Sands Beach. The individuals did not require hospitalization, according to the newspaper.

Stratford, Milford and Bridgeport fire departments are searching for a boat reportedly taking on water off the coast of Stratford.

According to posts on the Stratford Fire Department's Facebook page, a Stratford rescue boat is searching the area from Stratford Point to the end of Long Beach, and a Milford vessel is searching the area from the point to east of the Housatonic River.

The Connecticut Post reports that the 19-foot boat began taking on water around 9:30 p.m. There are three people on the vessel and all have life jackets, according to the newspaper. The boat has no power or lights, the Post reports.
