Drug Suspect Leads Police on High Speed Chase

Police say the suspect crashed into two cars before he was apprehended.

A Stratford man about to be arrested on a warrant by Connecticut State Police led Stratford police officers on a high-speed pursuit Thursday.

State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said David D. Williams, 31, of 159 Columbus Ave., was charged by state police with interfering with a search warrant, interfering with police, criminal attempt to commit assault on a police officer, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of possession of freebase cocaine with the intent to sell.

The incident began on Thursday, June 23, at 4:08 p.m. when Stratford officers observed Williams leave his house and drive to an office building parking lot on Honeyspot Road. Knowing that the State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force was about to execute a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Williams, the Stratford officers followed him and attempted to block his car.

When the officers order Williams to surrender, the suspect reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed, police said, endangering several officers and bystanders. Police officers initiated a pursuit.

Police said Williams proceeded driving recklessly on Honeyspot Road to Lordship Boulevard, where he veered into the oncoming lane to drive around vehicles stopped at the intersection.

As he turned onto Lordship Boulevard, Williams’ vehicle struck two other vehicles heading in the other direction, one of them nearly head-on, according to police. He then reportedly turned down Watson Boulevard and into the parking lot of the Ramada Inn hotel, where Stratford police apprehended him.

State police troopers and Stratford officers executed the search warrant at Williams’ residence, where they discovered drugs and the two children living there.

Vance said Williams was also on supervised probation when he was arrested. He was held on $250,000 bond for a court appearance today.
