Derby Man Identified as One of Two Killed in Motorcyle-Car Accident on Rt. 110 Near Sikorsky Sunday Evening

Stratford police still not releasing names of those involved in tragic Easter evening accident. However, the Connecticut Post has identified one fatality as a Derby man.

By early Monday evening Stratford police had still not released the names of two persons killed when one motorcycle collided with a car head-on on Main Street, Rt. 110, late Sunday evening, causing a chain-reaction crash involving a second motorcycle.

However, the Connecticut Post has identified Derby resident Shane Morneau, 32, as one of the deceased, with a passenger on Morneau's bike said to be the second fatality. Meanwhile, the Post has also identified one of the survivors on the first motorcycle as Christina Rossi, who was reported by the daily newspaper to be hospitalized in Bridgeport.

The desk sergeant on duty at Stratford police headquarters Monday evening had no new information to release to the press on the names of either those killed or injured in the crash that closed part of Rt. 110 near Sikorsky for most of Monday morning.

The accident marred an otherwise quiet Easter holiday locally.

At about 11 p.m. Sunday evening, the call went out on BNN-Traffic Alert CT that there was an accident involving multiple vehicles with two people unconscious at the scene at Main Street and Warner Hill Road.

Warner Hill Road marks a traffic light controlled intersection on Rt. 110 and includes a steep incline at its base at Main Street heading west toward Shelton.

According to the Stratford fire department, police, town fire, Sikorsky fire and EMS crews all responded to the scene and found one motorcycle on fire upon arrival. Stratford fire department Engine 4, Engine 5, Ladder 1 and Car 3 responded to the scene after the vehicle and the first motorcycle collided head-on.

However, accident debris reportedly downed the second motorcycle, which then is said to have burst into flames and was still on fire when emergency responders arrived.

Earlier this morning, News 8 New Haven and the CT Post both reported that Main Street (Rt. 110) near the scene of the accident remained closed this morning through about 9 a.m. while state and local police continued its investigations.

Local traffic was being diverted onto Oronoque Road, Prayer Spring Road, Peace Acre Lane and Pilgrim Lane while the investigation was continuing. Route 110 was finally reopened about 11 hours after the accident, it was reported.

Stratford police were unable to say Monday evening when they would release more details of the accident publicly.
