Deer Linked to Alleged Drunk Driver in Stratford

A 26-year-old Shelton man who was charged with DUI Friday told police a deer caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a utility pole on Warner Hill Road in Stratford, police said.
Patrick Porter was standing outside his vehicle when a Stratford officer arrived to the scene at around 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.
The car had heavy damage including a missing front tire, and several air bags had been deployed, police said.

Police said Porter smelled of alcohol and admitted to having two beers at a Bridgeport bar. Porter failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest on scene for driving under the influence, police said.
At headquarters, police said two Breathalyzer tests revealed blood alcohol concentrations in Porter of .1495 and .1402, respectively. The legal limit in Connecticut is 0.08.

In addition to the DUI charge, Porter was booked for failure to drive right and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
He posted $500 bond and is due in court Sept. 20.
