During this holiday weekend, the Connecticut State Police reported one fatal accident resulting in two deaths in Norwalk on the Merritt Parkway, and issued more than 1,000 speeding citations.
State police anticipated heavier than normal weekend traffic for the 2011 Labor Day holiday. State police were able to increase public safety to the highways and secondary roads of our state by using aircraft, unmarked patrol vehicles and additional manpower.
Lt. J. Paul Vance said Tuesday that the traffic was actually a little less than normal, though it was still busy.
For the purposes of reporting the statistics for this holiday weekend, the state police consider the “weekend” as beginning on Friday, Sept. 2 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Monday, Sept. 5 at 11:59 p.m.
