Couple Charged in Attempted Robbery at Gunpoint

The following arrest information was supplied by the Stratford Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Bridgeport man and his girlfriend were arrested Sunday after they allegedly attempted to rob a couple at gunpoint in the driveway of their Stratford home.

Police responded to a residence on Wigwam Lane just after midnight May 29 on report of a robbery with a weapon. The female victim said a man, later identified as Pedro Acevedo, 29, approached her as she got out of her car. He reportedly pointed a gun at her and demanded she give him her rings. The husband ran over and the suspect allegedly pointed the gun at him and told him not to move.

Acevedo then reportedly ran away and took off in a red Mercury Cougar, which police said was being driven by Acevedo's girlfriend, Tasha Taylor, 21, of Bridgeport.

A neighbor who witnessed the attempted robbery followed the car and took down the license plate number. Police tracked the vehicle and pulled it over. Acevedo reportedly ignored officers' demands to show his hands and had to be pulled from the vehicle. Police said a gun - a .22 caliber pistol - fell to the ground at this time.

According to the police report, Acevedo told police that he tried to rob the woman to support his drug addiction. Taylor reportedly had no idea he had a gun and that he was going to rob the woman; she thought her boyfriend was stopping by a friend's house, police said.
