Blotter: Landlord Arrested for Trespassing Own Property

The following arrest information was provided by the Stratford Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A local property owner involved in a tenant-landlord dispute was arrested for trespassing in her own house.

Police reports said they received a complaint by a female tenant at 54 Kenyon Street that the landlord, Andrea Janucik, 72, of 1469 Nichols Avenue, Stratford, had violated a court order and gone into the Kenyon Street home without notifying the tenant.

Police said Janucik is in the process of evicting the tenant, and that the tenant had made numerous complaints against her to police. During the eviction process, the Housing Court magistrate has ordered Janucik not to enter the house without notifying the tenant in advance. Janucik was charged with criminal trespass and released on a promise to appear at a Sept. 9 court appearance.

Littering leads to other charges

Littering was a bad idea for a Monroe resident, who wound up getting arrested by Stratford police on several PRAWN warrants.

Jonathan Rodriguez, 26, of 327 Fan Hill Road, Monroe, was a passenger in a car on Aug. 31 at 7:19 p.m. when a Stratford police officer observed the vehicle make a turn from Anderson Street onto Drome Avenue without signaling. The car also had a broken taillight.

Police reports said as the officer signaled for the car to pull over, he saw the passenger, Rodriguez, throw a cigarette package out the window. The driver, Mark Warcholic, 23, of 62 Roosevelt Avenue, Stratford, was issued infractions for failure to have a stop lamp and no turn signal. When the officer told Rodriguez he would get a ticket for littering, Rodriguez gave the officer an ID that a computer check revealed was a false identification.

He finally admitted his true identity, and another computer check showed he was wanted on two court-issued PRAWN warrants, by the Milford police for failure to appear in the second degree and by the State Police for a probation violation. In addition, Rodriguez was charged with interfering with a police officer and received the littering infraction. He was held on $10,500 bond for a court appearance on Sept. 13 in Milford Superior Court.

Police charge hit-and-run driver

Stratford police charged a local resident on Aug. 30 with speeding and other violations following a hit-and-run accident on Light Street.

An officer was dispatched to the scene at 10:05 a.m. after police received a call from a resident that someone had hit a parked car. The driver left the scene and continued toward the dead end of Light Street while the owner of the parked car blocked the street.

Police reports identified the driver as Ashley Minutolo, 21, of 782 Light Street, Stratford. She told officers that she was arguing with her boyfriend when she lost control of the vehicle and hit the parked car. Other residents said she was driving at an excessive speed on the congested street where children were playing. Police also determined that her drivers license was suspended.

Police charged Minutolo with traveling too fast for conditions, failure to drive right, evading responsibility for property damage, and operating under suspension. She was released on $50 bond for court on Sept. 13.
