Alleged Interfering with a 911 Call; Ilegal Crediting Charges; Bounty Hunter Turns in Suspect; and More

Woman Allegedly Breaks Into Car

A woman who was caught breaking into a car on Stratford Avenue was charged with conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree and interfering with an officer, according to Stratford police.

Police reports said a business owner apprehended the woman and called police at 11:18 a.m. on July 10. At least one other suspected accomplice fled the scene.

The pair had allegedly attempted to steal a GPS unit that was in the vehicle.

The woman, Toni Mercaro, 39, of 1491 Central Ave., Bridgeport, was released on $500 bond for a court appearance on July 20.

Police arrested a Bridgeport man on multiple charges following a domestic violence incident on July 5 on Woodend Road.

Reports said police were called at 12:46 a.m. by a 10-year-old girl who said a family acquaintance was assaulting her mother. When officers arrived they found a woman outside the home with facial bruises and bloody clothing. The victim said her boyfriend had assaulted her and smashed her cell phone when she tried to call police.

Richard Jefferson, 54, of 16 Ridge Ave., Bridgeport, was apprehended a short distance away. He was charged with assault in the third degree, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief in the third degree and interfering with a 911 call. He was held on $500 bond for a court appearance on July 5.

Domestic Violence Charges

Stratford Police charged a Shelton man with threatening in the second degree, assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct for a domestic violence complaint.

Police responded to 360 Honeyspot Road at 8:28 a.m. on July 5 for a report of an argument between a man and a woman. When an officer arrived, Thomas Jennings, 43, of 74 Sinsabaugh Heights, Shelton, reported that his girlfriend was chasing him because he accidentally took her cell phone when he left for work.

A computer check indicated the Stratford Police Department had an active arrest warrant out for Jennings in connection with a domestic violence complaint on Oct. 22, 2010. He was held on $25,000 bond for a court appearance that same day.

Woman Charged with Assault

A local man complained to police on July 7 that his girlfriend repeatedly assaulted him during an argument.

Police said they arrested Jessica Vargas, 32, of 1179 Main St., Stratford, on a charge of assault in the third degree. She was released on a promise to appear for a court appearance on July 8.

Illegal Use of a Credit Card

Geoff Gardener, 30, of 98 Emerson Drive, Stratford, was charged with conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree, illegal use of a credit card and forgery in the third degree on an outstanding warrant related to an alleged larceny last May.

Stratford Police said Gardener was taken into custody by Fairfield Police on July 6 at 4 p.m. and turned over to Stratford officers.

He was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled for a court appearance on July 14.

Bounty Hunter Brings in Suspect

A licensed bounty hunter turned a Westport man into Stratford Police on July 6 to face a charge of failure to appear in the second degree on a PRAWN warrant.

Stratford police held Glenn DeLuca, 48, of 32 Morningside Drive, Westport, on $50,000 bond for a court appearance on July 7.

Arrested on Two Warrants

A Stratford officer recognized a Bridgeport man who was wanted on two court arrest warrants when he was sighted on July 9 sitting in a parked vehicle on Parkway Drive.

Ricardo Cabrera, 35, of 132 Wheeler Terrace, Bridgeport, was charged with two counts of failure to appear. He was released on $7,500 bond for the Stratford warrant and $2,500 bond for the Bridgeport warrant, and was scheduled for a court appearance on July 19.

Violation of a Protective Order

Stratford police arrested Melanie Oakley, 30, of 77 Mohawk St., Stratford, on a charge of criminal violation of a protective order.

Police reports said Oakley turned herself in on July 12 when police notified her there was a warrant for her arrest.

She was released on a promise to appear for a court appearance on July 13.
