The Stratford Police Major Crime Squad is on the scene of an investigation into an accident on Barnum Avenue in which an adult and small child were struck by a vehicle.

The road is roped off from motorists between Bruce and Bowe avenues. Over the last hour investigators have been taking photos of a black SUV on the roadway in front of a convenience store on the corner of Bruce and Barnum.

About 10 feet from the SUV, closer to the sidewalk, was a broken pink stroller, which investigators were also photographing. One of the wheels on the stroller appeared to had broken off.

There is no official word yet on the condition of the victims.

A woman at a nearby hair salon said she didn't hear any collision and didn't know about the accident until a customer came in and told her. At that point the ambulance had already left the scene, she said.

A man who was watching the investigation unfold from his second floor balcony on Barnum Avenue could be heard saying, "The road out here is like a freeway."
