Abandoned Camper Catches Fire in Stratford

Fire officials have yet to determine a cause.

An abandoned motorized camper inside a fenced-in lot on Frog Pond Lane caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Reports of heavy smoke and fire came into the Stratford Fire Department at 12:53 p.m., the first unit arrived at the scene at 12:59 p.m. and the fire was placed under control at 1:30 p.m., fire department spokesperson Jon Gottfried said in a release.

The fenced-in lot was previously the Raybestos Memorial Field and is across from the Stratford Public Works fleet garage, Gottfried said.

As firefighters worked to douse the flames, nearby Patterson Avenue was closed to traffic so a water supply line could be stretched across the road, he added.

Gottfried said the fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire and as of the time of the release, the owner of the property and vehicle were not determined.

No injuries were reported.
