Obituary: Sally Koperwhats, Former Dir. at ABC Nursery School, 74

A lifelong teacher, 'Miss' Sally was a creative, caring, devoted and sensitive soul with a quick sense of humor.

Sally Koperwhats, age 74, of Stratford, loving mother, grandmother, daughter, niece, cousin and friend, died unexpectedly in the early hours of Dec. 15, 2013.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., Sally was the devoted daughter of the late Katherine and Joseph Safko.

A graduate of Stratford High School and the University of Bridgeport, Sally lived most of her life in Stratford.

A lifelong teacher, “Miss” Sally was a creative, caring, devoted and sensitive soul with a quick sense of humor, who, throughout her career, lovingly taught kindergarten and elementary school children in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut before becoming the Director of ABC nursery school in Stratford, where she remained until her retirement.

Family and close friends meant everything to Sally. She spent many happy years doting on her daughter, and then her grandchildren, affectionately known as “Mimi” to all of their friends.

In her final years, she devoted her life to caring for her elderly mother, and then her aunt.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Joe DeCrescenzo of Stratford, and their three children, Jessica, Christopher and Jacqueline, as well as all of the relatives and friends whom she so dearly loved.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, with the Rev. Ed Rawls officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information or to make an online condolence, please visit www.adzimafuneralhome.com.
