Obituary: John Syc, 92

John was born in Stratford in 1920 and served in the US Navy during World War II.

John J. Syc age 92 of Shelton the beloved husband of the late Helen Postolowski Syc passed away peacefully on March 5, 2013 in Griffin Hospital with his loving family by his side.

John was born in Stratford on June 6, 1920 and was the son of the late John M. and Maricianna Staff Syc.

John was a United States Navy World War II Veteran and was employed by Carpenter Steel for 35 years as a rigger.

John is survived by three daughters Helen A. Chmielewski and husband John of Shelton, Johanna Wilson and husband Dennis of Stratford and Theresa A. Syc of Shelton, two grandchildren John Chmielewski and wife Megan and Kathy McAuliffe and husband Jason, four great grandchildren, four sisters, Sophie Stofan and husband Ray of Mesa, Ariz., Terry Early of Miss., Dorothy Courchaine of Fla., and Lillian Browne and husband Donald of Milford and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife Helen, John was also predeceased by four brothers Walter, Charles, Frank and Bruce Syc, three sisters Helen Mickolaychuk, Jennie Faroni and Marion Augustine.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. directly in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 310 Pulaski St., Bridgeport where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Stefan Morawski.

Interment will follow in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main St., Stratford on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers those who so desire may contribute to Connecticut Hospice 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, Conn. 06405.
