Obituary: John Oaks, 89

Mr. Oaks was a World War II veteran and worked at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford.

John D. Oaks, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Ollie Yakubic Oaks, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Lord Chamberlain HCC, Stratford.

Mr. Oaks, a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, was born in Cornith, Miss. to the late Frank and Jennie Lee (Doll) Oaks and has been a longtime area resident.

He was retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, and prior to that had operated Oaks Dairy Farm in Stratford. John was also an avid bowler and gardener.

Survivors include his beloved children Robert Oaks of Florida, Dennis Oaks of Stratford, and Nancy Saksa and her husband Ronald of Stratford, two cherished grandchildren Steve Saksa and Jamie Zdru and her husband Jeremy, and two great-grandchildren Landon and Ashlie.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 18, at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford with Rev. Dr. Robert Genevicz officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
