Obituary: Edward Petro, Former Stratford Councilman, Passes

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, at 9 a.m. in the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home.

Edward J. Petro age 87 of Stratford passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2012 in Griffin Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Edward was born on Sept. 22, 1925 in Bridgeport and was the son the late Paul and Elizabeth Zihala Petro. Edward was a U.S. Marine World War II veteran and was a co-proprietor of Universal Machines for many years.

Edward was a former Stratford councilman, a member of the Men’s Club at Sts. Cyril and Methodius and enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking and spending time with his family especially around the Christmas holiday.

Edward is survived by two nephews and caretakers Joseph J. Petro Jr. and wife Tefta of Shelton and Robert B. Finlayson and wife Penny of Milford, several nieces and nephews Joseph, Raymond, Pauline, Dorothy, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Rosalie, Russell, Beverly and Bernice and several great nieces and great nephews.

Edward was also predeceased by two brothers John Petro and Joseph Petro, five sisters Anna Franko, Cecelia Petro, Mary Riola, Pauline Finlayson and Margaret Petro and one niece Frances Samsel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, at 9 a.m. in the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home 2220 Main Street Stratford and at 10 a.m. in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph W. Pekar.

Interment will follow with full military honors in St. John’s Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
