Obituary: Anne Dzema Knapik, 90

Anne was born in Czechoslovakia and was very proud of her Slovak heritage.

Anne Dzema Knapik, age 90, of Stratford, the beloved wife of the late William J. Knapik of 58 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday Oct. 16, 2013 in her residence with her loving family by her side.

Anne was born on August 16, 1923 in Samudovce, Czechoslovakia and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kosco Dzema.

She was employed by General Electric and Warners for many years as an executive secretary. Anne was a very active member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church and very proud of her Slovak heritage and taught Slovak dance and language classes.

She organized a Slovak dance group, was the past president of the Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath #39 and secretary of group #2, member of the Slovak Alliance, the ladies guild of Sts. Cyril and Methodius and a passionate participant of the May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church.

Anne loved to swim, camp, play basketball and pinochle, enjoyed watching and playing sports with her grandchildren and was also an enthusiastic UConn basketball fan.

She was a General Electric Sparklette High Stepper and enjoyed the simple things of life and laughed easily.

Anne is survived by her son William A. Knapik and wife Carol of Stratford, two daughters, Andrea Knapik of Berwick, Maine and Darlene K. Musial and husband Peter of Monroe, three grandchildren, Milysa, Deandra, Niklos, two sisters-in-law, Helen Knapik and Helen Loch and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at 9 a.m. directly at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 79 Church St., Bridgeport where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph W. Pekar.

Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main St., Stratford on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
