Audtions Announced for 'The Wedding Singer' by Bridgeport Theatre Company

All roles open and seeking a large, multi-ethnic cast

Bridgeport Theatre Company in Downtown Bridgeport is holding an open call audition for THE WEDDING SINGER; Music by Matthew Sklar, Book by Chad Beguelin & Tim Heath, Lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The show runs weekends May 24-June 9, 2013 at Downtown Cabraret Theatre. Director: Ricky Altamirano; Musical Director: Eli Newsom.

All roles open. Seeking a large, multi-ethnic cast of singers, dancers, and actors ages 8-80; full breakdown below. Non-Equity, no pay.

AUDITION INFO:

When:
Two open-call auditions will take place:

Sunday, March 3 from 7:30-9:30pm (sign-in begins at 7:15pm, sign-in ends at 9pm---please do not arrive earlier than 7:15pm this day due to a performance at the theater that will be letting out at that time.)

and Monday, March 4 from 6:30pm-9pm (sign-in begins at 6pm, sign-in ends at 8:30pm).

Actors will be seen in order of arrival, with the exception of the actors who have secured appointments (see below for info on how to reserve a timeslot).

What to prepare:
All actors should bring a current headshot (or recent photo) and 1 page acting resume or list of theater/performing experience.

Please prepare a short selection (around 1 minute) of either an 80’s pop/rock song or a song from a musical in the style of the show. Singing from the show is ok. Bring sheet music in the correct key---a capella singing is highly discouraged.

Callbacks:
Callbacks will take place on Tuesday March 5 beginning at 6pm. Not all roles require callbacks, so not receiving a callback is not an indication of whether you have been cast or not.


REHEARSAL/PERFORMANCE INFO:
General rehearsal schedule for THE WEDDING SINGER is: Mon-Thurs from 6:30-9:30pm and Sundays from 1-6pm. Rehearsals begin on or around Sunday April 14.

The performance schedule for THE WEDDING SINGER is as follows: May 24, 25, 26, 31, June 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 -- Fridays & Saturdays @ 8pm, Sundays @ 5pm.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Based on the hit film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, THE WEDDING SINGER is crammed with 80s pop-culture and songs that have a familiar sound to Bon Jovi and Heart. Wannabe rock star Robbie Hart makes his living as New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer until he is left at the altar. Broken-hearted, Robbie takes out his bitterness on stage at everyone’s weddings, until a charming waitress named Julia captures his affections. The only trouble is, Julia is engaged to a successful Wall Street broker and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. Can he win her heart before she says “I Do” or will it be too late?

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
All ages are approximate, and based on look not actual age. Non Traditional casting. All races and ages can audition.

Robbie Hart
B (below middle C) - Bb (above staff)
25-30, extremely strong singer who can adapt to many different styles. Strong, focused and diverse actor. Great comic timing. Ability to play guitar a plus. Basic movement required. Likable boy next door approach to the character.

Julia Sullivan
G (below middle C) - D (top of staff)
20’s, strong singer, with good movement ability. Strong acting ability. The role is to be played sweet and innocent, she is a waitress who longs to be married and live the perfect married life.

Holly
A (below middle C) - E (top of staff)
20-25, Must have strong dance ability, and a unique voice with a strong belt. Must be a strong actor. Holly is Julia’s cousin, very uninhibited and forward. Comic timing a must.

George
Middle C - G (top of staff)
25-30, Strong character singer who can rap and has good falsetto. George is openly gay and is to be played in a feminine manner. Boy George type.

Sammy
D (above middle C) - Gb (top of staff)
25-35, Singer who can also play bass guitar (not a requirement) . This is a non dancing role but basic movement is required. Sammy is a typical mans man.

Glen Guglia
D (above middle C) - Bb (above staff)
Late 25-30’s, Julia’s fiancé, must have great acting skills with strong singing skills, also requires basic movement. Glenn is tall, good looking, slightly older in appearance to Julia and Robbie, he is arrogant and wealthy.

Rosie
Middle C - C (middle of staff)
Robbie’s Grandmother, 60-70, Must have great comic timing and a singing voice that suits both
classic musical theatre and rap. Basic movement required. Sweet and lovable, has no shame. Actress can be made look age relevant if necessary.


Linda
A (below middle C) - D (top of staff)
20-25, Robbie’s Trashy girlfriend who leaves him at the altar. Strong belt voice with real grunt.
Movement required. Cher type of the 80’s, role will be slightly larger than normally portrayed.

Ensemble- Strong Actor, Singer, and Dancers to play different cameos of 1980’s pop culture icons and other ensemble tracks. All types wanted. Teen to Adult.
