Update on Fred Acker and animal cruelty cases
The information found below was compiled by M.H. Griffin from public information found online at State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Pending Case file. As in all such cases, the person described herein should be considered innocent until found guilty by a court of law. This case pertains to Fred Acker who is in the dog “rescue” business. His businesses have various names including, but not limited to, SPCA of Connecticut, Animal Adoption Network, and other names. He adopts dogs from local animal shelters in Connecticut which sell dogs for anywhere from $5.00 per dog to $50.00 per dog. He then sells these dogs for up to $400.00 per dog. Over the past two years his “Non Profit”, non-taxed, income was almost $400,000.00. He also imports dogs from, New York, Florida, various southern states, California and this past year from states that suffered tornados where many owned dogs got lost and wound up in animal shelters. These are the currant outstanding cases.

There are a number of issues with this information that I’d like to point out to you. First of all Fred Acker is facing a total of 117 counts of animal cruelty. This amounts to 117 years in jail and a fine of $117,000.00 or both. His attitude in court is arrogant, hostile, and insulting to the arresting Officer in this last case. Even though he had been arrested on 07/11/12 on 32 counts of failing to report a dog and cat sales event, and 10/11/12 for allowing a dog to roam, he was again arrested on 11/04/12 for 17 counts of animal cruelty, he was released with a “Promise To Appear”. On 11/08/12, Acker was again arrested for 63 counts of animal cruelty. The facility he housed these dogs in was measured at a level of 35 degrees( F). State Law requires the temp. in any kennel or other type of a dog facility can be no lower than 54 degrees. Does this man know something or somebody that nobody else in animal law enforcement knows? The State of Connecticut and in particular the State Animal Control Division has, over the last 20 plus years, allowed this man to exploit animals for his own financial benefit, and people, who he also exploits, by telling them that he is “saving these poor, defenseless puppies from being murdered by the big bad dog catchers”. Think Spanky & our Gang.
Acker knows every trick in the book and is a genius at staying out of jail while raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars and I’m sure paying very little in taxes as he goes along his merry way. Either he has a friend in the State Animal Control Office in Hartford or that Office is at the least incompetent, and at the most, aiding and abetting him in his illegal activities. Just sayin’. There’s a line from the movie, All The Presidents Men, in the parking garage where the person known as “deep throat” tells Bob Woodward, “follow the money, follow the money”. I suggest that anyone out there who is as outraged as I am, should contact the Department of Agriculture in Hartford and find out who’s minding the store while Acker continues to break the law with impunity. Call or write the Governor, the Attorney General, your Representatives in Hartford, the Humane Society of the United States, and anybody who professes to care about animal rights and welfare. All those that I’ve mentioned, work for us “The People”, it is our job to hold them to the oath they took when they entered office and to take care of the Peoples business. Feel free to share this information with all those you know. Hartford has to hear all our voices.
Should you wish to join a group of likeminded individuals who wish to see justice done for the dogs that can’t speak for themselves, join us at the Milford Superior Court House on Wed., Sept. 9, at 9:30am where Acker will be facing 55 counts of animal cruelty and let our voices be heard loud and clear.
