Big Business Welfare Claims

I read a Post Script in the New York Post, Sunday,  Nov.13th. It was written by Barry Ritholtz of the Bloomberg View.  So much for any plagiarism issues. First of all, Walmart is the largest employer in America today. They are a non-union shop, that receives all most all of its merchandise from China where workers work for “a bowl of rice a day”, to use the correct description. Walmart’s employees are some of the lowest paid workers in America today and most of them minorities, who should be middle-class, who are working for major corporations, and receive more than $7 billion dollars a year in public assistance because McDonalds has a “McResource” and Walmart has an in-house department  which helps there underpaid employees get public assistance, meaning food stamps , welfare and Medicaid.  Shouldn’t these Americans be allowed to move into the “middleclass”, which is the “American Dream”.

Why are profitable, dividend paying firms receiving taxpayer subsidies?  Because they can.  This system was set up many years ago similar to the Farm subsidies programs which allows big , agri-business corporations to be paid for the crops they don’t grow. This shortage allows  for a higher price to be charged for their product, or in the case of Walmart/McDonalds etc. to get away with paying full-time workers salaries that are at or below the poverty level, which allows them, the employees, to obtain Government (read taxpayer), assistance.

There are two ways to remedy this problem. The simplest way would be increase the minimum wage to a level that would support a family of 4 in today’s economy. This means there would be more money spent by these families instead of having the American Taxpayer subsidizing the major corporations so they can keep their workers at the poverty level. The next way would be more radical and yet, more equitable for all Americans and that is to charge  the amount of public assistance, any employee receives,  to the company he or she works for and let it be passed on to the worker. The Corporations are the new “Welfare Queens”.

These words are my own: Webster’s defines “socialism” as a theory by which means of production and distribution is owned by the workers and not the individual. During the past two elections, our President was called a “Socialist” by the “right wing” Republicans the way Sen. Joe McCarthy talked about “pinko’s,commies, and fellow travelers” back in the 1950’s (google it). In my opinion, this country should look back to England with a multi-party system including social democrats. I believe that we are on our way to either a social meltdown, an economic meltdown, which would cause a social meltdown, or the War of the Apocalypse.

I believe that the “Tea Party” wing of the Republican party are the resurrection of the “Dixiecrats” who forgot that they lost the Civil War and the 2012 election, and the rest of the party is trying to catch up. It is despicable, the disrespect that is shown publicly, in the media, especially “talk radio”, to the President of the United States of America.  We are all in the same boat together, how you could wish for him to fail. If he fails, this country fails and all the B.S. about” Liberty and Justice for All”, and “of the People, by the People, and for the People”, and “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” goes right down the toilet along with 350 million Americans. Wise up America, take control of your city government, your state government, and you federal government before it’s too late. As they say in Ireland, “Up the Revolution”.
