The Beach at Short Beach Getting Ready for the Season

Short Beach repairing from Sandy.

The Short Beach Complex was hit hard by Sandy back in October. But it is rising from the ashes.

The dunes are gone but are being replaced by sea grasses. The snack shack and pavilions have been repaired, the tennis and basketball courts have been cleaned and wind barriers will be placed around them.

Opening Day, as always, is Memorial Day Weekend. You can come to the beach now as long as your dressed warm.

The guys in the parks department are doing a great job getting the beach back together. It was not an easy job as the high tides went right up to the back of the houses on Riverdale.

The Short Beach Commission (meets the first Monday of the month) is always looking for new ideas to improve the experience at the beach. One idea which is now moving forward is to lease the mini-golf area to a private concern to rebuild and run.

The commission has put a business plan together for both the complex and golf course. We are now working on a 5-year and 10-year vision for the entire area.  The weather problems have actually helped focus on this complex and how it needed improvement before they hit. Now that is happening.

The Short Beach Complex (to include the golf course) is a gem in Stratford and those of us on the commission know this and are looking for new ways to improve on what we have. We invite all to come to our meetings on the first Monday of the month.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
