HCC WORKSHOPS ON FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS START 10/28

BRIDGEPORT – Starting Monday, Oct. 28,  Housatonic Community College will hold a series of workshops devoted to improving the success rates of first generation college students.

The success rates of these students are low nationally. According to USA Today, some 30 percent of the college freshmen in the United States are first generation. More than 89 percent of these students leave college without a degree, 25 percent within the first year. Housatonic’s workshops are designed to address this problem.

“The events will be solution focused,” said HCC Director of Academic Advising Mary K Clark, an organizer of the event. “We not only want to impart solutions, we want to develop a few based on the students’ needs”
