New highend coral and salt water fish store moves downtown.
The Coral Reef has moved from Paradise Green into the Stationhouse Square at 2505 Main Street, where the old restaurant once occupied, and is now expanding its business.
The owners, Donna Malavolta and Jonathan Eckart, (husband and wife) were just getting the store into shape when I wandered in.
This is not you "take the goldfish home in a bag" type fish store, but an up scale operation that involved lighting, coral and fish.
Donna was quick to point out that this is a salt water operation rather then a fresh water operation which involves a considerable amount of setup that they will be happy to provide.
Coral is a living thing and needs to thrive in a salt water environment and under specific lighting conditions.
"We will be happy to design and assist the customer in the setting up of the salt water and coral tanks that start at a price of around $200.00," she said.
A quick look around, by myself who is the first to admit that I know next to nothing about fish tanks and coral, I came away with a sense of beauty with the coral.
The coral under the lights seemed to change color when viewed from different angles and the fishing swimming in and around the coral was enough to make even me stress down.
The store is large and there are many different styles and types of coral fish tanks and fish so that a first time customer can wander around while checking out the different tanks.
The staff is very helpful and will be glad to assist you and answer even the most basic questions about coral and saltwater tanks.
The store is going to be open during the week, evenings and on the weekends.
You do have to look for the store which is all the way in the back of the square.
Parking is available both in front of the store and to the rear of the square.
One would hope they will do a thriving business and bring more people into the downtown area.
