SquareWrights group presents "Fall Quickies in the Stacks"
SquareWrights Playwright Group will present “Fall Quickies
in the Stacks,” a festival of five original short one-act plays on Saturday, October
26th at 2 p.m. at the Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street,
Stratford. The performance, which will take place in the Lovell
Room, is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
“Fall Quickies” features the
following plays by Stratford playwrights: “Don’t
Confuse Me with the Facts” by Orna Rawls, “Night Plane to Quito” by Steven
Otfinoski, “The Legend of Brick Randall ” by Tom Rushen and “Tumbling” by Mark
Lambeck. It also features “Thanks a Lot” by Kate
Gill of Guilford.
Directors for this festival
include Marlana Rugg and Richard Mancini of Stratford, Robert Watts of Milford,
Toby Armour of East Haven, and Rachel Babcock of Branford.
The festival of short plays
features works inspired by the word “fall” and covers such topics as the fall
of a political leader, a boxer who won’t take a fall, citizens grappling with
how to vote in a fall election, a jogger who tumbles into a pothole, and a
futuristic look at a fall holiday.
Since its inception in 2004, the Stratford-based SquareWrights
Playwright Group has had more than 75 productions and staged readings including
short-play festivals, the 24-hour Fast Forward Theatre Festival, fundraisers
for Tsunami and Katrina victims, and the Stratford Summer Arts Festival on the
grounds of the Shakespeare Theatre. In addition, they’ve collaborated with the
Stratford Arts Commission, The Temple Players, the Stratford Arts Guild, Eastbound
Theatre of Milford, Branford’s New Plays at Blackstone and Bridgeport’s
Playhouse on the Green.
