The League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area will hold a free public forum for candidates for the five open seats on the Bridgeport Board of Education.  The public event will be held October 24, 2013 at Saint John’s Episcopal Church from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  The church is located at the corner of Park and Fairfield Avenues.

All 8 candidates have been invited.  Six of 8 representing the three political parties involved have agreed to appear.  There will be questions from the League moderator and also from the audience.

Winners of BOE seats in the November 5 municipal elections likely will determine the employment fate of Bridgeport Supt. Paul Vallas, a nationally-known school turn-around expert and the center of controversy regarding what actions will result in "education reform."  The Democratic Party currently and in the past has held the majority position on the Board of Education, but this election might change that for the first time in recent years.
