Town Asks for Permanent Custody of Dogs in Neglect Case

Dog breeder Dawn Marie Pieger was arrested last year on animal cruelty charges based on the conditions she kept dogs at her home in Stratford.

A dog breeder was in court Tuesday fighting to get her dogs back.

According to an article in the Connecticut Post, nationally recognized German shepherd breeder Dawn Marie Pieger was arrested after town authorities said they found her keeping 13 dogs in filthy conditions in her West Broad Street home.

A local veterinarian testified this week that some of the dogs have still not recovered from medical problems caused by the neglect.
