“Here's an alternative to stealing formula, BREASTFEED!”

This was one reader’s response to a police report that detailed an arrest wherein a young couple was charged with larceny after allegedly stealing $150 worth of items -- including baby formula -- from the shelves of Walmart on Barnum Avenue Cut-Off.

The couple allegedly stowed away the items in the diaper bag of their 1-month-old, who was reportedly being carried throughout the store during the alleged shoplifting incident.

“A terrific solution is for the train platforms to be moved a remarkably short distance to the east..”

Town planner David Killeen recently shared with Stratford Patch some preliminary ideas on the redevelopment of Stratford Center. Among them was the idea to move the train parking lot up the street to a location on Barnum Avenue.

This reader’s comment suggested that if the platform was moved a little to the east, then that would free up some parking. The commenter also suggested that exit 33 be expanded on Barnum Avenue, therefore accommodating a commuter’s drive to the parking lot.

“The no child left behind act was one of the worst things to happen to the public school system.”

This was a reader’s response to a story about Stratford students beating the achievement gap, which refers to the relatively poor average academic performance by disadvantaged racial groups compared to white students.

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act was passed largely to force schools to shorten this gap, and Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) scores by Stratford students showed significant process this year.

However, this commenter said the NCLB Act has lowered standards and slowed down advanced students. Share your opinion in the comments section of .

“It’s a bigger problem than just short beach - there are weed baggies and damage at all public schools and playgrounds in town..”

This was one reader’s response to a story about vandalism and evidence of drug using and possible dealing at the Short Beach Complex.

Earlier this week, a commissioner on the Short Beach Commission (SBC) came to a SBC meeting with an envelope full of baggies she found in a parking lot adjacent to the Short Beach Golf Course. After the commissioner splayed out the dozen or so baggies on the table for the SBC to consider, she said security is lagging at the complex, and regular patrols should be upped in the area.

This reader’s comments, however, say that the problem spreads to areas all over town. Read the full story and other readers’ comments by .
