Stratford Gives Update on Sandy, 11/1

Here's the latest from the town about shelter, showers, charging stations, trash pickup and more.

The shelter at Bunnell High School will remain open tonight for residents without power.

Residents with a question about the shelter, or any other storm-related question, may call the Hurricane Sandy Hotline at 203.385.4070, which is staffed 24 hours a day.

Residents without electricity can use Bunnell High School, Birdseye Municipal Complex, the Library, the Police Department, the Huntington Road Fire Station, the Lordship Fire Station and Oronoque Fire Station to charge their electronic devices.

Showers are available at Birdseye Municipal complex until 9 p.m. tonight and at the Stratford YMCA.

The Stratford Department of Public Works continues picking up storm-related debris, and asks that branches be cut into 4-foot lengths. The transfer station will have extended hours over the weekend. The transfer station will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.

As of 10 a.m. today, United Illuminating reported that 36 percent of Stratford residents remain without power. All questions about restoration of power should be directed to UI at 800.722.5584.
